What is this website?
Riff is a free Chrome extension for writing comments, direct messages, and your own posts on X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. It also handles X Chat and the current conversation in the web versions of Slack and Microsoft Teams. You supply a point or notes, and Gemini Nano, built into Chrome, drafts the text on your computer. The extension has no account and does not send posts or drafts to the developer's servers. Replies and posts are prepared in the side panel. It only fills the input box, and you still press send yourself. The first use requires a model download and a computer that meets the requirements listed on the site.
Core features
- Reads the current post or a single conversation and drafts a reply from your point.
- Drafts from notes in a new post box, and can offer three openings before rewriting.
- Adjusts tone, sales pressure, adventurousness, and length to the site's limits.
- Lets a direct message start with an empty point, and does not accept a time, price, or yes-or-no for you.
- Refits the same notes for another site's post, including an X thread.
- Checks openings against the voice saved on the device and the last 60 items so they do not repeat.
Common use cases
- Someone sees a post on LinkedIn or X and wants to answer with their own point without starting from a blank box.
- In a direct message, the other person asks for a price or a meeting time, and the reply should ask a follow-up instead of agreeing.
- Notes from a client example are turned into a LinkedIn post, an X thread, or an Instagram caption.
- In the web version of Slack or Teams, the next message is drafted for the channel or thread currently open.
- For an empty conversation, a first message is drafted after choosing the purpose and how well you know the person.
Who is it for?
- People who often reply on desktop social sites and do not want drafts sent to an external AI service.
- Content operators who need one set of notes adapted to several sites' lengths and tones.
- People on desktop Chrome 138 or newer whose computer can run the on-device model.
- A poor fit for anyone who wants the extension to press send or schedule posts. Sending always stays with you.
- Also a poor fit for people who only use the Slack or Teams desktop apps, or messenger.com. Those are outside the current support.
How does it compare with similar tools?
Three questions help: whether the model runs on the device or in the cloud; whether it clicks send for you; and whether it covers comments, messages, or posts. Riff uses Gemini Nano in Chrome, keeps drafts in local extension storage, and does not send on your behalf. Cloud chat tools usually require an account and do not fill each site's input box. The help docs mark Instagram captions as beta. If a site is not supported, the text has to be pasted into the panel and the target site chosen by hand.
FAQ
Q: Does Riff post or send messages automatically?
A: No. It only fills the reply, comment, message, or post box, and it does not schedule publishing. You read it and press send yourself.
Q: Do I need an account or an API key?
A: No. The extension is free and has no subscription. Chrome downloads the model once, and it then runs on your computer.
Q: Which chats does it work in?
A: LinkedIn Messaging, Messenger on facebook.com, Instagram Direct, X Chat, and the web versions of Slack and Microsoft Teams in Chrome. messenger.com and the Slack and Teams desktop apps are not supported.
Q: What does the computer need?
A: The site asks for desktop Chrome 138 or newer, about 22 GB free on the drive that holds the Chrome profile, and a GPU with more than 4 GB of video memory, or 16 GB of RAM and at least 4 CPU cores. The first model download also needs a network connection.
